Established in Lyon, Axeleo is the first accelerator to get an investment from the French Tech Acceleration Fund.
Axeleo, created in Lyon in 2013, is a B2B tech startup accelerator. Axeleo relies on the expertise of a team of professionals and is backed by 40 entrepreneurs. Axeleo’s distinctive feature is its mission to help young companies that are already operational (3 to 4 years-old on average) whereas most incubators and accelerators focus on startups during their seeding phase. As well as providing financial support (in the form of investment), Axeleo also provides these businesses with a personalized 18-month acceleration program. Axeleo’s goals are to structure a company’s offer, to facilitate networking and to help raise funds.
The accelerator is currently working with 9 businesses: Tellmeplus, Forcity, Biboard, Tilkee, Perfect Memory, Trencube, Linksoft, Tsar Software and Freemo.
With support from the French government, French Tech was launched in 2013 to stimulate the creation and development of tech startups in France. As part of this initiative, Bpifrance (a subsidiary of the French state) created a 200-million euro investment fund. French Tech will use this money to co-finance private startup accelerators. Investing in Axeleo was French Tech’s first operation. The Lyon-based accelerator has just raised 2.3 million euros thanks to these funds and to investments made by 15 new entrepreneurs.
By making Axeleo a priority, French Tech has highlighted the buoyancy of Lyon’s digital ecosystem as well as its strong entrepreneurial culture. Lyon was granted the ‘Métropole French Tech’ label in November 2014 and will soon have its own French Tech association. The Lyon French Tech Association will be devoted to promoting Lyon’s digital sector.
