In 2015, Aéroports de Lyon welcomed 8,703,354 passengers, an increase of 2.8% compared to 2014. Though traffic for domestic flights fell slightly (0.3%), international traffic was particularly buoyant, showing 4.2% growth with 5.6 million passengers and a 65% share of overall traffic. In comparison, international flyers accounted for 63% of overall traffic in 2013 and 64% in 2014.

Destinations in Southern Europe showed the strongest growth: traffic was up 15.1% to Portugal (348,057 passengers), 12.5% to Spain (758,942 passengers), 13.3% to Greece (205,662 passengers) and 11.7% to Italy (with 488,329 passengers). These good figures result namely from the opening of many new lines in 2014 by Vueling, easyJet, Transavia.com and Aegean, as well as from some flights offering a greater number of seats (Iberia Express to Madrid, for example). As for Northern Europe, Ireland showed the sharpest growth, with traffic up 13% thanks to more frequent flights by Aer Lingus (with daily service to Dublin). As well, traffic on Emirates non-stop service to Dubai is continuing to rise, up 13.5% compared to 2014.

This momentum should continue in 2016 with the opening of 18 new regular flights from Lyon, including 17 new destinations for leisure and business travelers. These include Air Canada’s service to Montreal starting in June, Blue Air’s flight to Bucharest, also starting in June, easyJet’s service to Naples (since December 2015) and Faro (starting in April 2016), and the HOP! flight to Luxembourg starting in February.

Lyon-Saint Exupéry’s range of flights on offer is continuing to grow and now totals 115 non-stop destinations.
