Belgian group Vandemoortele, Europe’s leader in industrial frozen bakery goods, opened its new production unit at Plaine de l’Ain Industrial Park (PIPA), near Lyon, at the end of October. Vandemoortele has invested €26 million in this facility.

This industrial bakery, to include 4 production lines by 2020, will employ one hundred workers and enable the creation of an additional 70 jobs. The 3.7-hectare site also includes a frozen product storage warehouse. Production began in summer 2015 with pastries (croissants) followed by bakery items (pre-cooked breads on nets) and three shifts are already operating.

The advantages offered by the Plaine de l’Ain Industrial Park convinced the group to set up there. Its ideal location enables us to easily export throughout Europe, namely to Germany, Switzerland and Italy,” explains Francis Bon, Managing Director of Vandemoortele Bakery France. “The fact it is near Lyon also enables us to easily deliver to small stores on a daily basis. As well, PIPA offers strong know-how in following up and managing setup operations, which helps save time on the project. And the Park has an ambitious sustainable development strategy, a value that is consistent with our company policy.”

Vandemoortele was assisted by Aderly staff throughout this setup project. At the outset, the Agency offered the group 8 potential sites in less than 3 weeks. “The first visits started in June and July 2013, and by July 2014 the initial earth-moving work was underway,” concludes Francis Bon.

Founded in 1899, Vandemoortele today has operations in 12 European countries and employs over 5,000 staff. In 2014, its sales reached €1.269 million.
