Tell us about Vandemoortele
Vandemoortele is a Belgian group that produces frozen baked goods as well as margarines and packaged fats.
Tell us about your investment project
We decided to set up an industrial bakery in the North-East of Lyon on the Plaine de l’Ain site. This new factory will be equipped with four production lines by 2020. It will employ one hundred people and make it possible to create an extra 70 jobs. It will also be equipped with a ‘high bay’, a 40-metre high warehouse for storing frozen goods.
What made you choose the Lyon area?
In our profession, logistics is very expensive; so localisation is a determining factor. This area is extremely well located and it enables us to export easily to Germany, Switzerland and Italy. It also enables easy access to the small bakeries we supply daily in Lyon itself. Other factors were taken into account: the possibility of building an extension without having to start straight away, no limitations on height and finally, the support of an excellent team. All of these factors led us to select Plaine de l’Ain and we are extremely happy about how the project has been rolled out so far.
How did local actors support this project?
We began our research with the help of Aderly, directed by Madame Chaboud. We must acknowledge just how much help we received: in less than 3 weeks we had found 8 sites, 8 localisations and we were on our way to visit them all to find out which one we liked best. It all went very quickly: we began visiting sites in June-July 2013 and in July 2014 we began digging!
