In March 2019, Konecranes announced the creation of its world-class R&D centre in Lyon, to support the digital transformation of its products, services and operations. As France’s main industrial region and #2 digital hub, the Lyon metropolitan area was chosen for its expertise in the fields of AI, machine learning and industry 4.0. “We chose Lyon because the city offers a excellent advanced data research capabilities in an industrial environment” said Juha Pankakoski, Executive Vice President, Technology at Konecranes. Furthermore, with Université de Lyon, the Lyon region has a rich pool of data scientists and researchers which is key to the development of Konecranes’ project.
