The  ICCAWorld  (International Congress and Convention Association) has just revealed its 2016 ranking of the world’s top cities in which to host an international conference.

In order to establish this list, the association took into account the international events of over 50 participants, which took place in at least 3 different countries.

Lyon is in second position among French cities, ahead of Montpellier, Toulouse, Marseille, Nantes, Nice and Bordeaux, but behind Paris, which leads the world rankings.

Lyon is also 35th in Europe, ahead of Geneva, Moscow or Frankfurt, having climbed  3 places, with a total of 17,000 participants in 2016 versus 11,000 for Montpellier.

This development can be explained by the success of projects led by the Salons de Lyon, the GL Events Group and the Bureau des Congrès, as well as local actors such as scientists, doctors and professors who have increased the number of conferences in the city. These experts have made it possible to organize major events in the medical and scientific fields in Lyon such as the International Congress of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) in 2015 and the Francophone Diabetes Society conference in 2016.

This result is also due to the increase in the city’s hotel capacity, with an offer of 18,000 rooms, as well as the increase in flights to the city, making it an even more desirable destination.

Moreover, ONLYLYON Tourism will host 10 additional international conferences of more than 1000 participants this year. ONLYLYON’s Welcome system, which is unique in Europe, offers a high quality reception to the participants of the various fairs and congresses that benefit from it.
